Industry Information

At X-Mold, our goal is to be a resource for accurate and up-to-date information regarding treating wood to resist mold growth. We encourage you to read through the reports below to learn more about new developments at X-Mold and throughout the industry.

“For pallet manufacturers and their customers who are concerned about mold growing on pallets, the E-Fusion product manufactured by X-M Industries provides excellent protection that should last long enough for pallet surfaces to dry to below 20% moisture content.

“The intent of using a chemical fungicide on pallets is to provide mold protection while pallets have time to dry. The mold protection provided by E-Fusion exceeds this requirement for most conditions of pallet use. Pallets must be protected from subsequent exposure to water.”

“In recent years, it has become increasingly evident that mold growing on newly manufactured wood pallets is becoming less tolerated by many customers. Consequently, pallet customers are increasinglyist1_4067950-bananas-in-crates-mexico.jpg turning back trailer loads of pallets that have mold growing on them and demanding “mold free” pallets. Unlike wood rotting fungi, molds occur only on the surface of wood and do not damage its structural integrity. So, why all the fuss? The reasons are simple: 1) mold growing on pallets can contaminate or discolor the packaging and, ultimately, the product placed on them, 2) mold on pallets can contaminate the workplace, directly or indirectly contaminate product, and pose a health risk to people working in the same environment, and 3) moldy pallets present an ugly, unprofessional appearance that contaminates the packaged appeal of the finished unit load that is ready for distribution.
